| The Lakes are covered by three pages, Bowness, on Windermere and over the passes. Bowness on Windermere is on the shores of the lake about half way up its length. For those who read Arthur Ransome's "Swallows and Amazons" books it was "Rio" in them - to complete the "Swallows and Amazons" theme there are also a couple of photos of Coniston Water
On Windermere has a variety of views taken from boats large and small on the lake.
The Passes goes over Wrynose and Hardknot Passes from near Ambleside to Eskdale. I saw it described as a challenging drive and it certainly is - with plenty of hairpin bends and gradients up to 30%!
A final thought, there is only one lake in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake - all the others are either meres as in Windermere or Waters as in Coniston Water. Search this site or see the full list of pages on Site Map |
