| Watergate Bay has a really good, long beach, wide when the tide is out. It is very popular with surfers but is also great for just sitting on the beach sunbathing, enjoying the scenery or "ordinary" swimming.
There's no "prom", just the beach and the cliffs.
Click on a photo to see it full size in a new browser window There are some caves at the foot of the cliffs.
The only development on the beach at Watergate Bay is at the access point, it's popular with surfers and the buildings include shops for surfing kit and so on.
The access to the beach is in a steep dip along the road from Padstow to Newquay, it is hidden in this view from the top which has Newquay in the background. From the other side of the dip, there was much more of a sea running than in the other photos on this page.
